EuroShop 2017 – Putting light in a new perspective: retail trade focuses on store experience.

As had been expected, EuroShop 2017 broke all the records in its 50-year history: more than 113,000 visitors swarmed into the 18 halls and the stands of 2368 exhibitors at Düsseldorf trade fair from 5 to 9 March. The biggest retail trade fair in the world is booming because stationary trade is embracing the challenges presented by online competition and is focusing on its key strength – store experiences for all the senses. BÄRO’s trade fair appearance contributed important new lighting ideas for the retail sector.

J. Manuel von Möller is also lookings back at the turbulent days at the trade fair with great satisfaction: “The international character of EuroShop fascinates me time and again,” comments von Möller, who works with his wife Dr Sandra von Möller as managing directors of BÄRO: “Around two thirds of our visitors came from abroad.” European countries such as France, Italy and the UK, but also the Middle East, were particularly well represented, and the huge number of visitors meant that it was scarcely possible to take a break between the interesting conversations.

Focus on LED spectrums“Huge interest was shown by planners and decision-makers from the retail industry in the range- and product-specific lighting that was placed by BÄRO at the heart of its presentation,” continues von Möller. The coordination of LED spectrums with the colours of the products on the “Walk of Light” became a sensuous experience, where visitors to the stand were able to observe BÄRO’s twelve standard and special light colours in a direct comparison and during application.

However, the product range with the latest new developments such as the XR luminaire series also attracted a lot of attention: “Our consistent orientation on design quality is paying off,” observes Dr Sandra von Möller, “because the use of the luminaires both as lighting tools and also as design elements in a space is gaining in significance.” This is not only true for all areas of retail trade, from food retail outlets to non-food stores. It also applies to related architectural segments such as restaurants, hotels and even private living areas where bold design statements are required, such as those created by the suspended luminaires with the fashionable metal surfaces in a broad spectrum of alloys from the “BÄRO tailor-made” range.

Award-winning design
The success of BÄRO designs was confirmed by a host of awards that were won by current products: at the German Design Award 2017 the Ontero ID surface-mounted spotlights and Intara ID recessed luminaires received a “Special Mention”, the Ontero ID surface-mounted spotlights and WallWashers received the iF Design Award 2017 and the suspended luminaire Pendiro IC, sister model to the Pendiro ID, was included in the “Selection” of the Iconic Awards 2017: Interior Innovation.

Prospects for innovation
An exclusive experience for visitors to the BÄRO trade fair stand was also the preview of further new products that are due to be officially launched in the course of the year. For instance, both the LED panel Pendiro TX and also a new light profile with mini-reflectors were in use on the stand as functioning prototypes and pre-production models – which gave retail lighting specialists plenty to talk about. BÄRO sums up the experience: in 2017 EuroShop was once again a platform for many inspiring encounters and presented an opportunity for strengthening the brand’s positioning as an experienced and innovative lighting partner for the retail trade.
