A statement of modern supermarket architecture can be found at the northern edge of the Ruhr district. The newest EDEKA supermarket run by the Honsel family is by far the largest supermarket in the Dorsten region: 80 metres long, 38 metres wide and almost 8 metres high. Inside, the hall has 2300 square metres of retail space – free span with no additional columns. This means:

In close cooperation with the food retail specialists from Shop Zwo in Düsseldorf and Upel shop fitting, the lighting concept has led to the creation of an innovative, forward-looking store concept.

Exterior and interior industrial design elements continue the tradition of the site, the former Fürst Leopold mine. The ceiling area with its technical installations has a dark colour. Directed, zoned light divides the room and creates comfort and quality of stay.

At the entrance customers are welcomed by an appealing marketplace. Supported by the homogenous illumination of decorations high up, visitors are guided to the impressive counter with freshly prepared sushi, fresh fish, meat, cold cuts, cheese and bread. A combination of uniform rear wall illumination and spectrally matched product-specific lighting presents the retail space and the products in the quality they deserve.

Low shelves in the product aisles support the open spatial impression. Flat, suspended LED panels provide efficient homogeneous general lighting for the area and convey a sense of lightness. The light-flooded vertical surfaces that are visible from afar create a feeling of spaciousness, structure the room and provide orientation.
